As you may have guessed from the link on the last page, we will be using a Venn Diagram to visually show the similarities and diferences between these social groups.
For those that don't know or have forgotten what Venn Diagrams are and how we use them, here's a quick run down:
Each circle represents a different category, so, if you're looking at peasants, the pick circle on the left might represent European Peasants, whilst the blue circle represents Japanese Peasants.
All the information that you have researched about European Peasants and their way of life would go somewhere in the pink circle.
Likewise, all the information that you have researched about European Peasants and their way of life would go somewhere in the blue circle.
Here's the bit that can get tricky, though it's simple once you understand: The part where the circles overlap (labelled 'both A&B' in the diagram above) is what is common - or similar - to both groups. So, this is where you would write your research information that both groups share. For example, you might write that both groups farm crops here.
The section labelled A in the diagram above is what is unique to the pink circle, not found in the blue circle. This is where you would write about ways of life that are only found in European Peasants, not Japanese Peasants.
Likewise, the section labelled 'B' is where you would write information about Japanese Peasants that is not shared with European peasants. For example, you might write that the main crop grown was rice (whereas, in the 'A' section, you would write that European Peasants mainly grew rice).
If you're having trouble understanding, don't worry! It can be a tricky concept! Just ask someone around you or put up your hand and ask Miss. Rachael or Mr. Shane and they will be happy to help.
